prescription cookie jar

Jun 25, 2014 at 10:38 am (other crafts) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

My sister is leaving for graduate school in 2 weeks to study to become a Pharmacist. As her going away present, I made her a cookie jar that looks like a prescription bottle. It is filled with sugar cookies that look like pills :]

I got the idea from Sugar Dot Cookies who posted a small tutorial.

I found a label picture in google search and edited it to look more like the ones at the pharmacy where she works. I couldn’t find orange cellophane so I used red and yellow (putting the yellow on the outside) to make it look orange. Then I just put a square of fabric over the sealing cap and screwed the lid over it.

Batman tote bag

Jun 24, 2014 at 1:37 pm (accessories, fashion) (, , , , , , , , , )

I had to take a gym class and a needed a tote bag to carry a change of clothes, water bottle, and my essentials (phone, wallet, keys). Instead of buying one, I took an old Batman hoodie I had and made it into a tote bag.

I found this awesome homespun yellow plaid fabric at Joann Fabrics for the inside lining that matched perfectly. I took apart the hoodie with a seam ripper and drew my pattern right onto it. Since sweatshirt fabric stretches, I attached a stiff interfacing to it. I used left over pieces of the hoodie to make pockets on the lining and added a welt pocket.

giraffe jewelry box

Jun 24, 2014 at 12:43 pm (jewelry, other crafts) (, , , , , , )

A while back I was going through some old things and came upon an old box for holding keys. I decided I wanted to refinish the front with this awesome giraffe picture I found online and store some necklaces inside.

I tweaked the picture in Photoshop to make the colors more similar to the color of the box since I didn’t want to repaint the entire box (though I am still debating on it).

I used Mod Podge to glue the picture onto the box then put 2 more coats over top the picture.

unicorn serving dish

Jun 24, 2014 at 11:12 am (other crafts) (, , , , , , , )

I desperately wanted to make an awesome serving dish like the DIY Dinosaur Serving Dish made by Three Little Monkeys Studio

I went in search of a large dinosaur but strangely I could not find any. However, I did find a unicorn! I followed the DIY instructions except I did not paint the plate. Since the unicorn was more rubber like than hard plastic I filled the inside with spray foam. The cut did not come out as even as I would have liked, but it still is pretty awesome.

animal scarves

Dec 27, 2013 at 6:07 pm (accessories, fashion) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I made scarves this year as gifts to my friends and family (kept a fox for myself :D). I got the ideas and fox pattern from prudentbaby.com.

I hand-sewed my ears so they stick up a little bit. I also edited the pattern to make the wolf nose wider and guidelines for the bear.

I used soft flannel fabric and ultra cuddle fabric for underneath (so soft!). The scarves are a yard and a half long and I used 1/4″ seam allowance on everything except for the long body I used 1/2″.

penguin ornaments

Dec 24, 2013 at 7:03 pm (holiday) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I couldn’t find a lot of cute penguin ornaments so I made my own! I found a tutorial from craftberrybuch.com

I didn’t add the feet on mine, I think they look cuter without them.

top hat for the tree

Dec 24, 2013 at 6:37 pm (hats, holiday) (, , , , , , , , , )

Instead of the traditional star or angel at the top of the tree, I wanted to do something different. I decided to make our tree an awesome top hat – like a sir!

I made the top hat out of burlap lined with cardboard to make it real stiff. I used a mixture of sewing and hot glue.

Christmas decorations

Dec 24, 2013 at 6:36 pm (holiday) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

I went a little crazy and decorated almost my entire place. These are just a few things I did :]

Made a cute penguin print table runner and got those cute top hat baskets from Michaels

Bought 4 yds of candy cane print fleece from Joanns and covered the couch with it

Found this sheer snowflake fabric at Joanns to cover the two end tables (it got glitter everywhere!) and made a candy cane candle holder for the little fellow. I used a glass bowl and taped the candy canes to it and tied a bow around them to hold in place.

Searched high and low through all the picks at Michaels and created this wreath for the front door.
