dinosaur earrings

Dec 16, 2014 at 1:19 am (3D printing, jewelry) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I downloaded this file from thingiverse and printed it at a quarter scale to make small enough dinosaurs. I broke off the loops that printed on the dinosaurs backs, filed down the rough parts, drilled a hole in the center and added small eye screws. My sister is going to love these!

I also made a cute dinosaur Christmas card on shutterfly to match (original photo found on Google) :]

Dec 4, 2014 at 10:53 pm (3D printing) (, , , , , , , , )

For my Solid Modeling class, our final project was to make a functional cellphone holder. Of course i had to make a Batman one. Hopefully I will get to reprint it in black. Or I could just paint this one.
It can even fold up and fit into your pocket!

Aug 30, 2014 at 3:51 pm (crochet) (, , , , , , , , )

during the summer break between classes, I decided to teach myself how to crochet. I figure if I start now I can crochet everyone something for Christmas.

I started out practicing the different types of stitches and made some bows.

prescription cookie jar

Jun 25, 2014 at 10:38 am (other crafts) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

My sister is leaving for graduate school in 2 weeks to study to become a Pharmacist. As her going away present, I made her a cookie jar that looks like a prescription bottle. It is filled with sugar cookies that look like pills :]

I got the idea from Sugar Dot Cookies who posted a small tutorial.

I found a label picture in google search and edited it to look more like the ones at the pharmacy where she works. I couldn’t find orange cellophane so I used red and yellow (putting the yellow on the outside) to make it look orange. Then I just put a square of fabric over the sealing cap and screwed the lid over it.

Batman tote bag

Jun 24, 2014 at 1:37 pm (accessories, fashion) (, , , , , , , , , )

I had to take a gym class and a needed a tote bag to carry a change of clothes, water bottle, and my essentials (phone, wallet, keys). Instead of buying one, I took an old Batman hoodie I had and made it into a tote bag.

I found this awesome homespun yellow plaid fabric at Joann Fabrics for the inside lining that matched perfectly. I took apart the hoodie with a seam ripper and drew my pattern right onto it. Since sweatshirt fabric stretches, I attached a stiff interfacing to it. I used left over pieces of the hoodie to make pockets on the lining and added a welt pocket.

giraffe jewelry box

Jun 24, 2014 at 12:43 pm (jewelry, other crafts) (, , , , , , )

A while back I was going through some old things and came upon an old box for holding keys. I decided I wanted to refinish the front with this awesome giraffe picture I found online and store some necklaces inside.

I tweaked the picture in Photoshop to make the colors more similar to the color of the box since I didn’t want to repaint the entire box (though I am still debating on it).

I used Mod Podge to glue the picture onto the box then put 2 more coats over top the picture.

unicorn serving dish

Jun 24, 2014 at 11:12 am (other crafts) (, , , , , , , )

I desperately wanted to make an awesome serving dish like the DIY Dinosaur Serving Dish made by Three Little Monkeys Studio

I went in search of a large dinosaur but strangely I could not find any. However, I did find a unicorn! I followed the DIY instructions except I did not paint the plate. Since the unicorn was more rubber like than hard plastic I filled the inside with spray foam. The cut did not come out as even as I would have liked, but it still is pretty awesome.

animal scarves

Dec 27, 2013 at 6:07 pm (accessories, fashion) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I made scarves this year as gifts to my friends and family (kept a fox for myself :D). I got the ideas and fox pattern from prudentbaby.com.

I hand-sewed my ears so they stick up a little bit. I also edited the pattern to make the wolf nose wider and guidelines for the bear.

I used soft flannel fabric and ultra cuddle fabric for underneath (so soft!). The scarves are a yard and a half long and I used 1/4″ seam allowance on everything except for the long body I used 1/2″.

I couldn’t find a lot of cute penguin ornaments so I made my own! I found a tutorial from craftberrybuch.com

I didn’t add the feet on mine, I think they look cuter without them.

top hat for the tree

Dec 24, 2013 at 6:37 pm (hats, holiday) (, , , , , , , , , )

Instead of the traditional star or angel at the top of the tree, I wanted to do something different. I decided to make our tree an awesome top hat – like a sir!

I made the top hat out of burlap lined with cardboard to make it real stiff. I used a mixture of sewing and hot glue.

Christmas decorations

Dec 24, 2013 at 6:36 pm (holiday) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

I went a little crazy and decorated almost my entire place. These are just a few things I did :]

Made a cute penguin print table runner and got those cute top hat baskets from Michaels

Found this sheer snowflake fabric at Joanns to cover the two end tables (it got glitter everywhere!) and made a candy cane candle holder for the little fellow. I used a glass bowl and taped the candy canes to it and tied a bow around them to hold in place.

Searched high and low through all the picks at Michaels and created this wreath for the front door.

Han Solo

Oct 31, 2013 at 7:10 pm (costume, holiday, props) (, , , , , , , , )

For Halloween I wanted to be Han Solo. I found a black vest and blue pants at a shrift store and tailored them to myself. I already had a white button up shirt.

I had to paint the red stripes on the pants sides.

I ordered the blaster online from officialstarwarscostumes.com and had to spray paint it black. I then had to make the holster for it. I got the cute Chewie backpack from eBay.

Halloween

Oct 30, 2013 at 7:50 pm (holiday) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Made a few Halloween decorations for inside the house.

Made a table top cover with some left over purple fabric I had and found a spider web table runner I cut down to put over top. I found these awesome owl candle holders at Michaels. I made the center flower arrangement and smaller candle holders.

first floral arrangement

Mar 27, 2013 at 8:15 pm (other crafts) (, , , , , , , , )

On Valentine’s day I received my first ever bouquet of roses. I want to keep these roses forever so I hung them upside down to dry out. I decided to experiment and make an arrangement with them. I found this interesting owl vase at Walmart and bought some dried baby’s breath and fake leaves from Joanns.

After an hour of messing around with everything I came up with this:

handbook for the recently deceased

Oct 14, 2012 at 6:03 pm (accessories, costume, props) (, , , , , )

So I’m going to be female Betelgeuse for Halloween and wanted to make a prop/purse so what better than the Handbook for the Recently Deceased.

I found a cardboard book box at Joann Fabrics. I found images, touched them up and made them to fit the size of the book. I printed them on fabric printer paper, ironed heat bond onto the fabric, then ironed it onto the book.

It looks pretty sweet. I made it look like an old book with the iron by heating certain spots longer. Added purse handles and closure. I’m not sure if I want to leave the inside as is or put some padding or something in there..

felt hat

Aug 13, 2012 at 10:46 pm (fashion, hats, head pieces, school) (, , , , , , )

Today was the last millinery class :[ but at least I finished all my hats and some! I blocked a felt hood. When I started out I wanted a top hat but the opening was too big and wouldn’t shrink in so I ended up with this.

I definitely want to buy a pilbara or fedora head block and block a felt fedora

flower making part 2

Aug 3, 2012 at 11:23 pm (fashion, hats, head pieces, school) (, , , , , , )

I gave the flower making a second try since I still need something to put on my cocktail hat. I only used the smaller petals and didn’t put a lot on. Turned out much better – also since I had better glue this time. I left the hat piece at school so I won’t be able to put the flowers on until Monday. I’ll also be blocking a wool felt hat. There’s only 2 classed left :[
